Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

YEES is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe accessibility is part of good design, not an afterthought.

We're a small Community Interest Company working with young people, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and English as an additional language. Our site should welcome and work for the same range of people.

2. The standard we target

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is the internationally recognised standard for accessibility, and the level expected of UK public-sector and education-related websites.

Meeting this standard means that:

• Text has sufficient colour contrast against its background
• The site works without a mouse. Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard
• Images have meaningful descriptions (alt text) where they convey information
• Forms have clear labels and error messages
• Video and audio have captions or transcripts
• Pages have a clear, logical structure that works with screen readers
• Touch targets are at least 44 × 44 pixels for ease of use on mobile
• Animations can be paused or disabled by people who prefer reduced motion

3. Accessibility features on this site

We have built the following into this site:

• Skip to main content link at the top of every page (visible when you press Tab)
• Semantic HTML with proper headings, landmarks, and ARIA labels
• Visible keyboard focus indicators
• Colour combinations checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios
• Responsive layouts that work from mobile to desktop
• Text that can be resized without breaking the layout

4. Known limitations

We're being honest about where we're not yet fully compliant. The following are known limitations we're actively working on:

• Older PDFs: Some downloadable documents (such as historical flyers) may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Newer PDFs are produced with accessibility in mind. If you need an older PDF in an accessible format, contact us (see Section 7).
• Embedded video: If we embed video from third-party platforms (e.g. YouTube), captions depend on the original upload. We aim to caption our own video content.
• Third-party embeds: Some content (social media feeds, Microsoft Forms) is embedded from third-party services whose accessibility we don't fully control.

We test the site regularly using a combination of automated tools (axe DevTools, WAVE) and manual checks, and we welcome feedback from real users.

5. Reporting accessibility problems

When you contact us, please tell us the web address (URL) of the page, what you were trying to do, what happened (or didn't happen), and what assistive technology you were using, if any. We aim to respond within 5 working days.

6. Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018. While YEES is not a public sector body, we voluntarily align with the spirit of these regulations. If you are unhappy with how we respond to your accessibility complaint, you can contact the EHRC via the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.

7. Requesting content in alternative formats

If you need information from this site in a format that works better for you, for example large print, easy-read, audio recording, or BSL video, get in touch and we'll do our best to provide it. Email info@yeesupport.co.uk and we'll respond within 5 working days.
